Matrix
(stamper) numbers are
assigned to the lacquer masters used to make the record pressing plates.
The number usually appears etched in the "dead wax" -- the
inner spiral groove area -- of the record. The primary purposes of
the matrix number are
to match up lacquers and the stampers made from them to master tapes
and to identify the lab that
cut
the
lacquer. Here
